Description
Kachina dancers in the Hopi Indian tribes are symbolic representations in human form. They depict the spirits of plants, animals, birds, places, or ancestors. Kachina dances are performed to help bring rain, promote harmony in the universe, and ensure health, long life, and happiness for the people. The "Early Morning Singer" or Talavai Kachina, performs in pairs during the Bean Dance, or Powamu. Powamu dances are performed in the kiva to bless the bean sprouts.
The Southwest is known for its color and diversity in Native Indian rituals and art. After seeing Kent's first sculpture ("Uninvited Guest"), the Bank of Arizona asked Kent to create a bronze sculpture reflecting a southwestern theme for their banks' decor. Intrigued by the kachina depicted in the bank's logo, Kent chose it, "The Early Morning Singer", as his subject. The bank was thrilled with the detail and enchanting quality of the final work.
The vibrant colors and southwestern design of this piece would be an enriching addition to any decor.
